News - Author Elizabeth Letts Visits ALHS for Assembly and Book, Mural Signing
Published on
Students at Avon Lake High School had a unique opportunity to attend an optional assembly to meet contemporary author Elizabeth Letts. The assembly took place on Thursday, September 26th at Avon Lake Performing Arts Center and featured the presentation of her book, “Finding Dorothy.” Ms. Letts was also delighted to autograph any of her books the students may have brought to the assembly, and she also signed her painted wall mural. Her book, “Finding Dorothy,” chronicles the story behind “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” from the perspective of author L. Frank Baum’s wife, Maud. The book boasts a bifocal story line with common themes, one that recreates Maud’s youth and the other that takes place in 1939 when she met Judy Garland on the movie set of the timeless classic. The visit of Ms. Letts to Avon Lake High School could not have been made possible without the persevering efforts of ELA teacher Ms. Krystine Frisch and the district’s partnership with the Avon Lake Public Library and the City of Avon Lake. Special thanks to NEHS officers from Avon Lake High School who did a phenomenal job serving as panelists. This event was part of “Finding Dorothy” Community Read events which took place at Avon Lake Public Library during the month of September. These invaluable community partnerships are instrumental in supporting and upholding the legacy of the Avon Lake City School District. Thank you to all stakeholders who helped make this special event possible!
